Award and Scholarship Ceremony of NTUA for the Academic Year 2022–2023

On Monday, 19 May 2025, an award and scholarship presentation ceremony for students and alumni of the Institution for the academic year 2022–2023 was held in the Events Hall of the Administration Building at the Zografou Polytechnic Campus. The ceremony aimed to highlight and reward effort and excellence, reinforcing the values of knowledge, innovation, and social contribution that NTUA has consistently upheld throughout its history.

The event opened with a musical performance by students of the NTUA Music Department. An address was delivered by the NTUA Rector, Professor Ioannis K. Chatzigeorgiou, followed by the Vice-Rector for Administrative Affairs and Student Welfare, Professor Panagiotis I. Psarrakos, in collaboration with the Deputy Head of the Student Welfare Directorate, Ms. Vasiliki Balampani, who presented in detail the awards and scholarships of the Student Welfare Department. Mr. Marios Sourlas, a diploma holder of the National Technical University of Athens, also shared a personal message, reflecting on his own experience as a scholarship recipient and underlining the significance it had for his academic and personal development.

During the ceremony, honorary titles, excellence awards, and scholarships were conferred upon students and alumni who distinguished themselves for their exceptional academic performance, research activity, and social or professional contribution.

The significant award ceremony was honoured by the presence of donors and sponsors of the scholarships. We extend our warmest congratulations to our students and alumni for their achievements and express our heartfelt thanks to our donors and supporters for their continuous assistance and support.

The National Technical University of Athens and Columbia Engineering successfully co-organised the first scientific workshop of the current year, entitled «Infrastructure and Energy Sustainability in a Changing Climate». The event brought together distinguished Professors from both universities, many of whom are NTUA alumni. The workshop was held at the Zografou Polytechnic Campus, attracting students, researchers, and Professors, and was also available via live stream, which was watched in real time by more than 700 viewers.

The presentations and discussions focused on critical challenges of the energy and environmental transition, covering topics such as:

  • Decarbonisation of the building stock through advanced analytical tools
  • The use of trustworthy artificial intelligence to address climate change
  • The challenges and limits of smart cities
  • The application of artificial intelligence in autonomous mobility

The presentations covered, among other topics:

  • The sustainable electrification of Europe’s first «Renewable Energy Valley»
  • Strategies for reducing the carbon footprint
  • Technological solutions for fire prevention and suppression
  • Innovative approaches to infrastructure monitoring using IoT and non-destructive testing methods
  • Measures to enhance infrastructure resilience and adaptation to climate change

This workshop is the first in a series of events to follow within the framework of the collaboration between NTUA and Columbia University.
