The National Technical University of Athens ranked #1 in Greece and #355 worldwide in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and #140 in Engineering and Technology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

The National Technical University of Athens has achieved a significant distinction in the QS World University Rankings 2026, the global ranking of the world’s best universities, recently published. This year’s evaluation covers a total of 8,467 institutions, with results published for 1,501 of them. In this highly competitive environment, NTUA secured the #355 position, ahead of all other Greek institutions assessed.

Particularly strong performances were recorded in the criteria of Employer Outcomes, Employer Reputation, Citations per Faculty, and International Research Network.

Furthermore, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, which includes 1,781 institutions — 171 more than the previous year — NTUA is ranked #140 in the field of Engineering and Technology, further consolidating its international standing. At the same time, it achieves high-level distinctions in individual scientific disciplines, including Civil Engineering (positions 51–100), Electrical & Computer Engineering (128th), Mechanical Engineering (145th), Architecture & Built Environment (positions 151–200), Chemical Engineering (positions 151–200), and Mathematics, Geosciences and Geophysics (positions 151–200).

These distinctions reflect NTUA’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, technological innovation, cutting-edge research, and engagement with the international scientific community and industry.

The University Administration extends its warmest congratulations to all members of its academic community — faculty, researchers, students, alumni, and technical and administrative staff — for their contribution to establishing NTUA as a benchmark on the global academic map.

The National Technical University of Athens and Columbia Engineering successfully co-organised the first scientific workshop of the current year, entitled «Infrastructure and Energy Sustainability in a Changing Climate». The event brought together distinguished Professors from both universities, many of whom are NTUA alumni. The workshop was held at the Zografou Polytechnic Campus, attracting students, researchers, and Professors, and was also available via live stream, which was watched in real time by more than 700 viewers.

The presentations and discussions focused on critical challenges of the energy and environmental transition, covering topics such as:

  • Decarbonisation of the building stock through advanced analytical tools
  • The use of trustworthy artificial intelligence to address climate change
  • The challenges and limits of smart cities
  • The application of artificial intelligence in autonomous mobility

The presentations covered, among other topics:

  • The sustainable electrification of Europe’s first «Renewable Energy Valley»
  • Strategies for reducing the carbon footprint
  • Technological solutions for fire prevention and suppression
  • Innovative approaches to infrastructure monitoring using IoT and non-destructive testing methods
  • Measures to enhance infrastructure resilience and adaptation to climate change

This workshop is the first in a series of events to follow within the framework of the collaboration between NTUA and Columbia University.
