On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, the official reception session for Professor Doros Theodorou of the NTUA School of Chemical Engineering was held in the Ceremonial Hall of the Academy of Athens, welcoming him as a Full Member of the Institution.
The ceremony began with an address by the President of the Academy of Athens, Professor Michalis Tiverios, followed by the presentation of the new Academician by Professor Konstantinos Vayenas, a member of the Academy of Athens, who spoke at length about the personality, research work, contributions, and international recognition of Professor Theodorou in the fields of materials science and chemical engineering.
Professor Doros Theodorou then delivered a lecture entitled: “Thermodynamic Analysis and Molecular Simulation as Means for Understanding and Designing Materials”, in which he elaborated on the significance of theoretical and computational methods for understanding the behaviour of materials at the molecular level, as well as their contribution to the design of new materials with improved properties for applications in technological and industrial sectors.
Professor Theodorou is an internationally distinguished scientist with significant research work focused on the development of new computational methods and algorithms for understanding and predicting the structure–properties–processing–performance relationships of materials. For his overall contribution, Professor Theodorou has been honoured with numerous awards and distinctions, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, European Materials Medal, DSM Lifetime Achievement Award, Guggenheim Medal, and FOMMS Medal. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association.
