Works for the complete restoration of space 2D1 at the Central Squares (former «Grammiko» store) at the Zografou Campus have been completed.
The space, with an area of 91.2 square metres (gross 99.54 square metres), previously housed the «Grammiko» store. After the store ceased operating it was unlawfully occupied for more than 10 years. The occupations of the former «Grammiko» store and the adjacent former «Papasotiriou» store were definitively terminated in the final days of 2024. Upon evacuation, extensive structural damage and widespread vandalism and destruction were found.
In summary, the works carried out in the space after the Institution regained control, in order to make it functional and return it to use for the benefit of the University community, comprised the removal of: painted glazing panels, steel window frames, damaged security shutters, the entire internal electrical installation, light fittings, and damaged sanitary ware; and the installation of: new aluminium curtain walls with thermal insulation glazing, new doors, new security shutters, a new electrical installation and linear LED light fittings; full renovation of the sanitary facilities with new plumbing and sanitary ware; internal waterproofing of the ceiling with Penetron; painting; and installation of 2 high-energy-efficiency air-conditioning units with ceiling cassettes.
The space was assigned to the Student and Alumni Liaison and Services Office, which performs the important work of supporting and systematically informing students of the National Technical University of Athens on matters relating to their studies and career planning.
