The National Technical University of Athens warmly congratulates the 162 members of its academic community included in this year’s international ranking “World’s Top 2% Scientists List” by Stanford University, published annually in the Elsevier Data Repository. The ranking lists the top 2% of researchers with the greatest scientific influence worldwide and is based on objective bibliometric indicators from the Scopus database, comprising two distinct lists: (a) career-long (cumulative impact) and (b) single-year impact (annual performance).

This year’s list includes 162 researchers, of whom 151 are current or retired members of the Academic and Research Staff (Faculty), 3 are members of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP), and 8 are scientific collaborators – researchers of the institution and ICCS. The active Faculty members referenced in the study number 91, representing 22.6% of all serving Faculty members. Of particular significance is the fact that among them are three newly elected Faculty members. Also included are young NTUA researchers appearing on the lists for the first time, reinforcing the institution’s «new generation» of scientists.  The presence of both new Faculty members and our researchers on the lists reflects international impact, signals the renewal of human resources, and strengthens the conviction that NTUA’s choices are creating an «excellence pathway» for the years ahead — with high expectations for research output, international collaborations, and meaningful mentorship of the next generation of researchers.

It is also worth noting that the two external members of the NTUA Board of Directors from the academic community, Professor Georgios Georgiou and Professor Emeritus Sergios Theodoridis, are also included in the list.

NTUA continues to be a leading force in global research activity, confirming the enduring quality and broad impact of the scientific work produced in its laboratories and Schools.
