We are pleased to announce to the Polytechnic community that, following a request by the NTUA Rector’s Council to the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Conference of Presidents of the Parliament approved the allocation of €300,000 for the upgrade and expansion of the sports facilities at the Polytechnic Campus. Specifically, the generous grant of the Hellenic Parliament to NTUA concerns the construction of two outdoor sports facilities: a 7-a-side football pitch and a 3×3 basketball court.
The NTUA Rector’s Council, representing the entire NTUA community, expresses its warm gratitude to the Conference of Presidents of the Parliament and, in particular, to its President, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis, for the generous grant covering the construction costs of the two courts, which will contribute further to the enhancement of the space, the expansion of sports facilities, and the well-being of the members of our Polytechnic community.
Project description
The project includes the construction of a 7-a-side football pitch with a synthetic turf surface of 5 cm pile height (playing area dimensions: 45.00 m x 35.00 m), in accordance with current FIFA specifications and suitable for the hosting of official matches. The pitch will be fully equipped and will include football goals, player and coaching benches, a warm-up area, perimeter fencing, etc.
Also included is the construction of a 3×3 basketball court (playing area dimensions: 15.00 m x 11.00 m), suitable for the hosting of official matches in accordance with current FIBA specifications. The court will feature an acrylic sports surface on an asphalt base and will be fully equipped with a basketball hoop, player benches, a scoring table area, and all necessary ancillary equipment.
The two courts will be located within the arena of the former open-air athletics track of the NTUA sports complex. The scope of the project also includes all required ancillary infrastructure works, such as earthworks, a stormwater drainage system, water supply networks, electrical power supply, as well as any other installations necessary for the full operation of the sports facilities.
The construction of the new courts at the NTUA sports complex will substantially upgrade the available sports infrastructure, providing spaces suitable both for everyday athletic activity and for the hosting of training sessions, university, and official competitions. At the same time, the project revitalises and brings back into use a space that had effectively been abandoned, reinforcing the role of sport as a fundamental pillar of the academic and social life of the Institution.
From the NTUA Rector’s Council
